Interview with Ingela Nordström, Head of Marine Nordic, Volvo Penta

AB Volvo Penta supports DSM2025 as Gold Sponsor. What contributed to make this decision?
Volvo Penta grew out of western Sweden and is therefore a part of the local maritime cluster so participating in and contributing to Donsö Shipping Meet is a given. But Volvo Penta is also nowadays a global supplier of marine propulsion systems for commercial vessels and being at Donsö Shipping Meet allows us to meet with delegates from all over the world discussing how we could enhance their productivity and efficiency in their vessels.

What makes DSM different from other exhibitions in your opinion?
DSM is a very open and welcoming event. Here, you really meet the people behind the companies. It also delivers great content and knowledge through it’s many seminars and interviews, allowing us who participate not only to describe ourselves and what we can do but also get to know our colleagues in the business on a deeper level.

What are your expectations for DSM2025?
Meeting and networking, exploring possibilities, exchanging ideas on how to reach our long term goals.

What do you find are the opportunities and challenges in the Shipping Industry today?
As Volvo Penta we have a vision of pioneering sustainable power, productivity and experience at sea. We strive towards net zero emissions and that is a huge undertaking but something we believe is crucial to accomplish for the generations to come. Our customers are on the same journey. The marine applications we deliver solutions to are very diverse and therefore have different technology needs. We need to be broad enough to cover these diverse solutions but specific enough to build volumes which is important to be able to support the customers in an efficient way. Volvo Penta do see that we have an important role to play, leading the way in the transition towards sustainable power solutions and we see opportunities to grow through this challenge.

How would you describe DSM in one sentence?
A beautiful small yet prosperous place in Sweden offering great opportunities to build new connections for future growth.

And finally, do you prefer a sail or a motorboat for recreation, and why so?
I grew up sailing but have the last half of my life got increased interest in motorboating. I love both and cannot be without the one or the other. Boating allows me to be with my family, just relax and enjoy nature, but also fulfill my great interest of fishing.
