The Safety Meet is a two day event on September 2-3, intended for attendees interested in safety topics.
The Safety Meet consists of two parts:
The focus on DSM2023 was new energy sources for ship propulsion and auxiliary power. Each option for the future was discussed; LNG, Methanol, Hydrogen, Ammonia, Biofuels, Nuclear, Wind and Battery. A seminar was held as well as small scale moderator held discussions on each topic.Final result of EU-project LASH FIRE on Fire Safety on RoRo and RoPax ships was communicated and discussed. During the Banquet dinner, Joel Smith, G.D, Swedish Maritime Administration, had the honor to hand out the Nordkompass Fire Safety Award 2023. The price was awarded to the crew of Stena Scandinavica, in particular Martina Thowsen, Watchkeeping AB, for acting fast and correctly, with competence and courage, preventing a potential fire on cargo deck of Stena Scandinavica earlier this year. Bengt Viknander, Master, Stena Line Scandinavia, received the award on behalf of the crew.
