Interview with David Deng, CEO, Yuchai Marine Power Co., Ltd. (YCMP)
Yuchai Marine Power Co.,Ltd supports DSM2025 as Silver Sponsor. What contributed to make this decision?
We are a marine 2-stroke engine maker of MAN and WinGD in China. I attended DSM2023 as a visitor invited by Terntank. I think it is most suitable for our company. Two ship owners on the island that are Terntank and SIRIUS SHIPPING are our good customers so that we can take the chance to visit them. And also our best business partner China Merchants Jinling Shipyard(Yangzhou) Dingheng Co., Ltd.was a Gold Sponsor of DSM and they got a lots of business opportunities during the exhibition. All these make us to decide to join DSM2025 as a silver sponsor and wish our booth to be next to China Merchants Jinling Shipyard(Yangzhou) Dingheng Co., Ltd. so that we can jointly promote our products to the customers in common.
What makes DSM different from other exhibitions in your opinion?
It focus on small and medium ships that is a perfect match for our engines. And also the exhibitors and visitors are all professional in marine industries.
What are your expectations for DSM2025?
We wish to make our brand YCMP more international and gain more direct contacts with European customers.
What do you find are the opportunities and challenges in the Shipping Industry today?
The Opportunities:
- Increasing demand for green ships.
- Promotion of technological innovation.
- Global trade and marine development demands. The challenges:
- Market volatility and uncertainty.
- Difficulty in cost control.
- Fierce technological competition.
- Overcapacity
- USTR launched a Section 301 investigation into China’s maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding sectors.
How would you describe DSM in one sentence?
Small but beautiful.
And finally, do you prefer a sail or a motorboat for recreation, and why so?
I prefer sail because:
- It is more environmentally friendly, does not need to burn fossil fuels.
- It is slow and peaceful which makes you relax and allows you to enjoy the sea view.
- It offers a more hands-on and engaging experience. It requires some skill and knowledge, and mastering these aspects can bring a great sense of accomplishment which is quite exciting.
